Do you know the dangers of water?

Last night police were dealing with reports of youngsters jumping

Do you know the dangers of water? Last night police were dealing with reports of youngsters jumping into the River Tees. In partnership with Cleveland Fire Brigade they want to remind everyone of the dangers of open water, especially during the summer when young people are more likely to be near rivers and beaches. Local Policing Superintendent Sharon Cooney said Sadly too many people underestimate the danger of swimming or jumping into open water and there have been a number of tragedies in recent years. We are particularly concerned about reports relating to young people taking risks near water where currents are strong and unpredictable, even when the water can appear calm on the surface. Wed urge everyone to take care near open water and for parents to make sure they know where their children are playing during the summer months. Make sure you know the risks associated with rivers, pools and our beaches. The Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) says that more than 700 people drown in the UK every year and many more have nonfatal experiences, suffering lifechanging injuries. We urge parents to warn youngsters of the dangers of playing near water, which is often deeper and colder than young people may believe. Please share RLSS UKs warning poster below and visit here httpsbit.ly30FOhdR
