Firefighters bravery and sacrifice honoured Firefighters Memorial Day Thursday, 4 May 2017 At midday today Cleveland Fire Brigade firefighters will stand on parade in front of their fire stations to observe a minute silence in honour of the bravery and sacrifice of all firefighters who have died on duty whilst serving their communities. Local fire crews may signal Firefighters Memorial Day by sounding sirens for 30 seconds followed by a minute silence. Flags will also be flown at halfmast. Firefighters Memorial Day has been established to take place annually on 4 May by the Firefighters Memorial Trust under authority of a Royal Charter, supported by the Trusts patron, HRH The Princess Royal. Ian Hayton, Chief Fire Officer of Cleveland Fire Brigade, said Cleveland Fire Authority and all Cleveland Fire Brigade personnel wholeheartedly embrace this commemorative occasion and will observe a minutes silence at midday in memory of our fallen colleagues. All serving and former firefighters, their families and the public are invited to join us in a moments reflection this Firefighters Memorial Day.
