Hartlepool to host community cycle rides TWO community bike rides are to be held in Hartlepool as part of a campaign to encourage more people to take up cycling. They will take place on Wednesday May 31 at 6.30pm and on Sunday June 4 at 9.45am. The free rides are being organised by Sustrans, the national sustainable transport charity, and supported by the Hartlepool Councilled Hartlepool Active Travel Hub which promotes sustainable forms of travel as alternatives to the car. They follow a recent initiative to recruit and train volunteer Cycle Leaders in the town. The first ride will last two hours and take a route around Hartlepools Headland. The second, a two and a half hour ride, will again take in the Headland but will include a cafe stop. Anyone interested in taking part in either ride should meet at Hartlepool Uniteds Victoria Park stadium in Clarence Road. Hartlepool Council Sustainable Travel Officer Tony Davison who coordinates the work of the Hartlepool Active Travel Hub, said We want to encourage more people to experience the joys and benefits of bike riding so both rides are much targeted at beginners. More information is available from volunteer Cycle Leader Chris Raper at chrisraper23@gmail.com or on 07894 148925.
