Police are reminding vehicle owners to ensure their vehicles are locked and valuables are not left on display after a spate of thefts from vehicles across Hartlepool. Seaton, Foggy Furze and Fens are amongst the areas which have seen the spate of opportunist thefts. Officers would like to remind members of the public to ensure that vehicle doors and windows are securely locked and not to leave valuables on display in an unattended vehicle. It is suspected that the majority of the breakins occurred due to vehicles being left insecure. Police recently arrested a 30yearold man on suspicion of vehicle interference in Hartlepool and he was later released under investigation whilst enquiries continue. Around 34 vehicle breakins occurred in a sevenday period from Monday 1st July. Items such as money, sunglasses and bags were taken by opportunist thieves. Further incidents are believed to have occurred in the early hours of Wednesday 10th July and victims of crime as well as anyone with relevant information are asked to contact Cleveland Police on the nonemergency number 101. You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or www.crimestoppersuk.org.
