The outgoing Mayor and Mayoress of Hartlepool, Councillor Paul Beck and his wife Mary, recently visited the towns Waverley Terrace Community Allotment Project and praised the work going on there. The Hartlepool Borough Councilled project uses gardening and other outdoor activities to bring about positive changes in the lives of people with disabilities or those who are in ill health, vulnerable or disadvantaged. It also enables unemployed people to get involved in voluntary work to improve their chances of finding employment. It is supported by the Big Lottery Fund which awarded the project a grant of 400,000 in 2015. Anyone wishing to find out more should call (01429) 857080 or visit www.volunteerhartlepool.org.uk
