Work is due to commence next week (Monday 29th July) to improve more than two kilometres of path within the Bishop Cuthbert area. The extensive scheme which is expected to take around 15 weeks to complete will see improved accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists to a number of paths within the landscaped area that surrounds the new Bishop Cuthbert residential area. The works funded externally by the Tees Valley Combined Authorities Local Growth Fund programme will improve the accessibility of the paths by laying a robust tarmac surface and also upgrade two footbridges. Although access to the paths will be affected during this period, the large open grassed areas will in the most part still be open for use. Councillor John Tennant, Chair of Hartlepool Borough Councils Neighbourhood Services Committee, said These exciting works will really improve accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists in the Bishop Cuthbert area. Its part of a number of schemes in Hartlepool funded by the Tees Valley Combined Authorities Local Growth Fund programme which we hope will be appreciated by residents and visitors to the town. Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said Weve committed millions of pounds to Hartlepool to fund transport projects, such as the 4million for the Elwick bypass and were determined to improve travel for cyclists and walkers too. These great upgrades will make it smoother, safer and easier than ever to get about without using a car, complementing other refurbishment were supporting in the town.
